of Transformation 2017 was an amazing art project and exhibition that supported
the recovery of many people. Transformation is required in those that are
struggling with addiction and in the perspective that the public has about these
individuals. The intersection of personal and public transformation is The Art
of Transformation. The Art of Transformation 2018, to be held at the Boll
Family YMCA in downtown Detroit in July, will provide the opportunity for the
residents of Mariners Inn to utilize the artistic genre known as mixed media to
mix a wide array of materials and techniques together to create new and
different forms of art.
The Art of Transformation will be a tribute to those people who
are engaged in the struggle to overcome their personal addiction and free
themselves from the addiction’s effects. The goal of the project is to create
art works that will bring home to those who might not otherwise understand that
recovery from addiction, no matter the substance, is not instantaneous. Most
addicts, even those who have been clean and sober for many years, still
describe themselves as “recovering”. Additionally, this project provides a
means for the men of Mariners Inn to explore the meaning of recovery through a
variety of art materials and techniques. The project will give consumers
complete freedom to express themselves. A celebratory reception will be held on
Thursday, July 19 at the Boll Family YMCA, 1401 Broadway St.
