On December 15th the Mariners Inn Choir had the privilege of performing at the St. John's Open Arms Program Candlelight Vigil at Wayne County Community College - Eastern District. The vigil was an opportunity for members of the community to come together to mourn the loss of loved ones, gain support from one another, and hopefully begin healing from their pain. The Mariners Inn Choir performed for the crowd while other consumers from our organization attended to mourn the loss of loved ones.
Mariners Inn has been partnering with the St. John Open Arms Program for the last few months. Open Arms aims to help individuals who have experienced death learn to mourn and heal in a healthy and affirming way.Phyllis Kearney, Grief Specialist, has been coming to Mariners once a week to provide Grief and Loss support for our gentlemen. When she found out about the choir she thought they would be a perfect fit to perform at the vigil.
This is just one of many examples of how partnerships between community organizations can have a powerful impact on both the individuals we serve and the community as a whole
