DETROIT— September 2, 2015 — Mariners Inn is proud to announce that its Chief Operations Officer, Carina Jackson, has been named a member of Leadership Detroit Class XXXVII.

According to Leadership Detroit’s website, "This annual multi-session, community-based program grooms participants for a lifelong commitment to leadership by delving into key issues that affect the Detroit region and challenging them to bring about positive change." The highly competitive program begins September 17, 2015.

Ms. Jackson, a resident of Inkster, has served with Mariners Inn – a human services organization that provides services to men and their families in Detroit, Michigan – for eight years. Mariners Inn was founded in 1925 by the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, and is nationally acclaimed and accredited through the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

At Mariners Inn, Ms. Jackson supervises the Residential and Housing Programs as well as the Facilities Department. She assisted with the creation and implementation of the Residential Youth Prevention Program, the Peer Mentoring Program, and the Youth Experience Program.

Ms. Jackson’s diverse background includes education, entrepreneurship, and government, with prior positions with C.L. Jackson and Associates, Youth Vision, and Chief of Staff for Detroit City Council Member Saunteel Jenkins. Ms. Jackson received the 2013 German Marshall Memorial Fund Fellowship, traveling internationally as a representative of the City of Detroit and Mariners Inn. A graduate of Walsh College, Ms. Jackson also supports girls and women through her B.E. (Be Empowered, Be Educated, Be Entrepreneurial) initiative.

Regarding Ms. Jackson’s Leadership Detroit selection, David Sampson, Mariners Inn CEO, states, “Ms. Jackson demonstrates true leadership on a daily basis, both for the people we serve and the staff that are under her care. Leadership Detroit will serve as another well-deserved accomplishment in her stellar career of service to others.”

Since 1925, Mariners Inn has served as an anchor for those struggling to navigate the treacherous waters of homelessness and substance abuse through a wide range of social service programs that achieve the best possible outcomes for adults, families and youth affected by addiction. Mariners Inn is a nationally acclaimed, licensed, full-service treatment center providing substance abuse treatment, shelter, and supportive services to Southeast Michigan’s homeless men.
