Mariners Inn is proud to announce that its Treatment Director, Kori Loewe, has been named a Marshall Memorial Fellow of the German Marshall Fund (GMF).

According to GMF’s website, the fellowship is GMF’s “flagship leadership development program [which sends] emerging leaders from the United States to Europe. GMF awards 75 Marshall Memorial Fellowships each year to the best and brightest from all sectors.” Ms. Loewe will travel throughout Europe in September and October 2015 as a representative of the city of Detroit and Mariners Inn. Ms. Loewe’s goal is to engage in dialogue with European substance abuse treatment providers, and to bring back innovative ideas to inform her work at Mariners Inn.

Ms. Loewe, a Detroit resident, has served with Mariners Inn – a human services organization that provides services to men and their families in Detroit, Michigan – for seven years. Mariners Inn was founded in 1925 by the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, and is nationally acclaimed and accredited through the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

At Mariners Inn, Ms. Loewe is responsible for daily operations of an inpatient and outpatient substance use treatment program and during her tenure has doubled program revenue. Ms. Loewe has also been responsible for the implementation of multiple, progressive program elements including a residential program for young adult men facing multiple barriers to independent living. Additionally, Ms. Loewe developed a Restorative Justice model of behavioral management, the first of its kind in addiction treatment, and designed and implemented an electronic health records system.

Ms. Loewe serves on multiple boards in the community, including the Substance Use Advisory Board for the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority, the Board of Directors for the Michigan AIDS Coalition, and the Advisory Board for the University of Detroit Mercy’s WARY (Working with At-Risk Youth) Fellowship. Ms. Loewe completed her graduate work at the University of Detroit Mercy in 2011.

David Sampson, Mariners Inn CEO, states, “Ms. Loewe is a shining example of professional growth and development. Being chosen as a Fellow for the German Marshall Memorial Fund further exemplifies her zeal to become the best leader she possibly can. I applaud her initiative and I look forward to sharing in her experiences from abroad."
