When guests walk through the doors of Detroit’s Mariners Inn, they quickly realize kindness is not something in short supply. This fact remained true on a recent special occasion that the consumers of Mariners Inn look forward to each year – the annual MotorCity Helping Hands BBQ, now in its 13th year.

Thanks to the longstanding generosity and support of MotorCity Casino Hotel, the clients and staff of Mariners Inn enjoyed a lavish barbeque meal on July 15, with Motor City providing, preparing and serving the meal in addition to managing cleanup after the event.

The barbeque was hosted by eight members of MotorCity’s Helping Hands committee led by Jacci Woods, vice president of public relations and community affairs for MotorCity Casino Hotel.

MotorCity has supported Mariners Inn through the Helping Hands BBQ since 2001. The purpose of the event is to provide clients with a generous meal and to show support for the work Mariners Inn does in the community.

Over the years, MotorCity’s Helping Hands volunteer committee has dedicated thousands of hours to helping advance the collective mission of Mariners Inn. In addition, MotorCity associates and their families have raised tens of thousands of dollars to benefit Mariners Inn programming for the consumers who are struggling with homelessness and addiction.

Mariners Inn Chief Executive Officer David Sampson says MotorCity’s impact goes well beyond the annual barbeque event.

“We have received tremendous support from MotorCity such as hygiene kits for the men we serve, the annual barbeque, support for Mariners families through interoffice fundraising activities, and generous sponsorship of our annual golf outing and River Rhythm events.”

MotorCity Casino is also lending its support to Mariners Inn's upcoming River Rhythm gala, which will be held at the casino's Sound Board Theater on November 7.

Additionally, as a result of recent MotorCity Casino employee fundraising efforts, a Mariners Inn family received an opportunity to enjoy dinner at the casino's award-winning Iridescence restaurant.

Sampson adds that the relationships created through the partnership with MotorCity have been a true blessing.

“More important are the relationships Mariners has been blessed with by people like Sam Abrams, Jacci Woods, Dave Denomme, and Gregg Solomon. We are forever indebted to their altruistic demonstrations of generosity and support, and will always be grateful to have them on this journey to help save lives,” said Sampson.

MotorCity Casino Hotel is committed to helping create a healthy community through support of programs that positively impact the quality of life in the metropolitan Detroit area. To learn more about its Helping Hands committee, visit http://www.motorcitycasino.com/community.aspx.
