Level One

$75.00 One-Time Fee

  • What: Four hours of group education in basic awareness of consequences of DUI - legal, personal, physical and societal

Level Two

$110.00 One-Time Fee

  • What: Six hours of in-depth group education about alcoholism and highway safety with additional opportunities to explore individual drinking behaviors & patterns.
  • When: The second and fourth Saturdays of each month, 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. Contact 313-962-9446 x231 to register.

Comprehensive Assessment

$225.00 One-Time Fee

  • What: A one-hour individual assessment completing a bio psychosocial substance abuse history.
  • When: Call to schedule an appointment.

Alcohol & Highway Safety

Mariners Inn is licensed by the State of Michigan as a provider of alcohol and highway safety education. This means that a man or woman of any age who has been convicted of operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor and mandated by the court to receive alcohol-related education can now attend required courses at a respected non-profit treatment center in Detroit's inner city.

Mariners Inn offers Level 1 and Level 2 Alcohol Highway Safety classes. Classes are provided by highly qualified counselors to those who need to complete them.

Comprehensive Assessment

Mariners Inn provides a one (1) hour full alcohol & substance abuse comprehensive assessment to individuals wanting to complete the steps necessary to reinstate their State of Michigan driving privileges. The assessment evaluates a person’s lifetime history of alcohol and/or substance usage to make a professional recommendation to the State of Michigan Administrative Review Board.

When Does the Course Occur

Classes are offered the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month, excluding holidays. Both classes (levels 1 and 2) begin at 8:30 am. Level 1 ends at 12:30 pm and Level 2 ends at 3:00 pm.

Course Requirements

In order to receive credit for the course, an individual must arrive on time and participate for the entire time scheduled.

What does the assessment examine?

  • Lifetime Driving Conviction History
  • Lifetime Treatment History for Alcohol and/or Drug Use Disorders
  • Lifetime Support Group History
  • Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM-IV) Impression (to include mental health diagnoses)
  • Michigan Alcohol Screening Test (MAST) Score Interpretation
  • Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST) Score Interpretation
  • Drug Screen Results (Not administered by Mariners Inn)
  • Medical & Dental Referrals
  • Lifetime Abstinence History
  • Continuum of Care Recommendations
  • Clinical prognosis of individual’s likelihood to abstain from the use of substances and/or alcohol while operating a motor vehicle, as outlined by the Secretary of State
  • Clinical summary of overall evaluation to include evaluators recommendation(s)

During the assessment the evaluator will identify the necessary steps that the individual will need to take in requesting a review, documentation needed to be submitted in addition to the comprehensive assessment, and process once documents are received by the Administrative Review Board.
